As a furniture flipper and antiques collector, I’m always looking for new ways to update pieces of furniture. With this antique wood dresser I found, I want to share with you how to use milk paint to give it that farmhouse decor look we all love.
You can often find pieces to makeover on the buy and sell pages, craigslist or even estate and garage sales. I like to remind you to be safe and aware when making these transactions. Meet in a public place and take someone with you.
Now that we have the safety part out of the way, lets get to the good stuff!
Antique Wood Dresser Painted Using Milk Paint

I found this piece online for a steal and I like using these types of dressers for nightstands. I currently have 2 similar pieces in my master bedroom. They are stylish yet functional. The larger surface area works great for decor and lamps. The drawers are another storage area if you’re limited on that. Our home was built in 1908 and that means limited storage. So, any way that I can find new ways to store items is a great option for us. These pieces can also help balance out a room if you have large area of space on either side of the bed.
You’ll notice I tend to paint all my pieces in a neutral tone and often times, white. Why do I do this you ask? Let me share…
Why Use a Neutral Paint Color?
- Neutral colors are readily available.
- And goes with many decor styles.
- It’s timeless and will work in your home as long as you need it to.
- Not having to repaint a piece is a win in my book!
Finding the Perfect Piece
Most people will tell you to measure the space before hopping in the car and rushing to pick it up. I usually throw caution to wind and figure if it doesn’t work where I had intended, I find a different spot for it. Especially if it’s a good deal. I never want to pass those up. Besides, you can always give it a paint update and turn around and sell it for a profit. I do that often as well.
White Milk Paint
This piece had the original hardware and I liked it. If it’s missing pieces or you just don’t care for the style, you can always change them. That is another way you can easily update your pieces and for cheap.
I hope this tutorial was helpful and gave you some good ideas on how you can take an existing piece of furniture or even hunt for that diamond in the rough, and make it beautiful again.
Thanks so much for stopping by today it always means so much to me to have you here.
