When you remodel on a budget, it’s always nice to be able to use existing furniture pieces. Often times, purchasing new pieces cost more than the entire project itself. I am all about saving that money friends. This nightstand was painted black a few months ago and I never really felt like they “fit”. So I wanted an easy DIY nightstand makeover and I think I achieved it.
I loved their style and now painted I loved them even more, but they never really seemed to “go”. Buying new ones was out of the question due to cost so I brainstormed over how I could give them a more farmhouse feel without breaking the bank. After turning to Pinterest for some design ideas I noticed a trend in the pictures I was drawn to. The pulls. Almost all the images I had pinned, the pieces had what is known as “cup pulls”. They add more of a modern feel to existing pieces in my opinion. Here is how the pieces looked before…
DIY Nightstand Makeover
They just don’t have the farmhouse feel I’m going for with this Master bedroom remodel.
I searched online to find the perfect pulls. When replacing pulls, you need to measure from center of screw to center of screw on the opposite side to make sure they will fit your nightstand. My two screws were two and half inches apart.
Keep in mind, you can also putty in the existing screw holes, paint over and drill new ones. That way if you fall in love with a new hardware set that doesn’t fit the existing holes, you can still find a way to make it work! This gives a little more freedom as well because you won’t be limited to just one size or style. I love having options for my ever changing mind.
I went to my “go-to” online shopping place, Amazon. They usually have everything I need and with a prime account, most items ship for free! Here’s what they look like after…
So you can see, for around $12 a nightstand, I changed the look and feel of them. I am pleased with the change and hope to continue the trend of using what I already own while working on this remodel project. I can’t wait to finish the entire project! It will be up on the blog soon. How have you made over existing pieces in your home? I’d love to hear about it!
How can you makeover your own nightstand?
- Find some cheap second hand or use what you already have
- Get some of your favorite paint or use “oops” paint from your local hardware store. They usually sell those for super cheap.
- Give it a quick update with new hardware. Find some on Amazon or even from older pieces you may already have! Free is always best in my book.
