For as long as I can remember I knew I wanted a sliding barn door over my master bath door. When I came across Artisan Hardware and saw all the track options they had to offer, I fell in love. They had the perfect track to go with my DIY Barn Door build and make the tracks to you exact specifications and needs.
After spending days trying to decide, I finally chose The Vintage Barn Door Hardware. I knew I was painting the door white, so I wanted something that would pair well with the door and this set did just that. The install was really easy and it comes with all materials needed (except drill and level) to install as well as very detailed instructions. We followed those and had the track up in less than 30 minutes. It is so well made and durable and I am extremely happy with this product. I was worried it would be loud and difficult to open but it slides like butter and is so quiet! This was important to me because I am NOT a moring person and with my husband going in and out while getting ready for work…Let’s just say we were both hoping for a quiet door.
Track Hardware for the Barn Door
For the door build, we measured from where we wanted to place the track and used the specifications we gave to Artisan Hardware on what size we wanted to build. They hand make each track for your measurement specifications which is really cool.
We used Cedar fence pickets for the center boards and 2×2 for the framing. For the top, center and bottom boards we used 1×8 cedar boards because we needed a piece of wood large enough to attach to the aprons on the track rollers. Cedar was important for this project because of durability and weight. I also like that even painted white, it gives the door that “rustic”feel.
Painted Barn Door
We considered staining the boards as well. I love the look. But in the end, I went with white paint and it works well in this space. I may be adding a handle to the door eventually but for now, I am loving the clean appearance and its simplicity.
In the spirit of Fall, I added a wheat wreath to the door. I love adding natural elements to most of my spaces and this piece went great! I found the wreath at Tuesday Morning. You can also find faux greenery at a great price at Home Goods and even Ross!
This project was much more simple and less time consuming that I thought it would be. Do you have a sliding barn door I loved to hear about them in the comments below!
